15 January 2022

Dear Parents and Students,

The Management and staff of the Husayni Madrasah Boys’ Section (HMBS) are pleased to welcome you to academic year 2022/1443 (AH). We are extremely happy to start our new year to continue to pursue Islamic knowledge and values through Ahlul-Bayt (AS). We have an exciting, fruitful and productive year ahead. With the help of the Almighty (swt) and your full cooperation (students & parents) we will be successful.

The HMBS thrives to provide a peaceful environment to elevate our spiritual life through self-purification by acquiring Islamic knowledge that is obligatory (wajib) for us. For us to succeed, we must have protocols to maintain the integrity and efficient operations. This circular provides the fundamental functioning roles for us to follow to maintain a pristine environment. This relates to students, staff, parents and administration of HMBS.

The teachers at HMBS play a crucial role as part of the learning process. We have great dedicated teachers with decades of experience in our faculty. They have vast knowledge of their areas of expertise. We also conduct regular training to enhance their core subject matter as well as explore new and effective learning techniques to enrich the academic environment.

We take these guidelines very seriously. We encourage you (Students and Parents) to read it thoroughly and complete the online consent agreement provided as part of enrolment process. This must be completed before 31st January 2022. The student will not be able to attend classes if this is not done.

In order to foster core Islamic principles of self-worth, self-discipline and moral conduct, HMBS has established rules and regulations. These enhance a good productive learning environment that allows effective learning and builds personality with the final goal of being the followers of the Awaited Savior (atfs).

Code of Conduct forms the basis of Akhlaq, hence, the HMBS follows the following system for students to accumulate rewarding points of good conduct or being penalized for bad conduct throughout the year. Each student will be awarded with 100 points to start the year. Points will be awarded or deducted as follows:

A student who abides to the code of conduct and has no offences at the end of every module will receive 5 points. Students obtaining 100% attendance with discipline at the end of the year will receive a special award.

Qur’an recitation policy

Quran recitation is a required subject for student of class 7 – 10 and will be part of overall annual grade. Students must attain a certain level to pass the subject.

We have modified our system of monitoring the student’s annual progress. Each student will undergo a screening at the beginning of the year to determine which level of recitation the child has attained based on the following  guidelines.

There are five levels:

  1. Pre level one:    This level teaches students how to recognize and join Quranic alphabets.
  2. Level one:         This level teaches students the basic punctuation signs and its appropriate application in a Qur’anic verse.
  3. Level two:         This level teaches students the proper makhraj (pronunciation) of alphabets with emphasis on fluency when reciting.
  4. Level three:      This level teaches students the different tajweed/ahkaam rules.
  5. Level four:        This level teaches students advanced Quran recitation skills.

The weekly Qur’an recitation class time will be utilized for one-on-one interaction with the Qur’an Maalims. It is mandatory for each student to bring an exercise book to the class in order to take notes and complete their homework assignment. Formal assessment progress will be recorded for each student at the end of each module. This tracking system will enable the HMBS to decide if the student has attained the basic threshold for passing Qur’an recitation.

A student who is unable to recite Qur’an based on the below criteria will not be allowed to proceed to the next academic grade. The student must be conversant with and apply the following in their recitation:

  1. Recognition of Qur’anic alphabets
  2. Recognition and application of punctuations such as (harakah (vowels), shaddah, sukoon, long vowels, tanween, etc).
  3. Recitation of verses with utmost fluency.
  4. Recitation with proper pronunciation of alphabets

MADRASAH CURRICULUM.

The Husayni Madrasahs of Dar es Salaam, with the grace of the Almighty, has completed the curriculum for Grades 7 – 10. These are published in text books that are loaned to students for their use during the year.

The Madrasah Academic team will now be reviewing the curriculum under the guidance of our scholars.

For classes 7 – 10, the 4 core subjects are; Qur’an/Akhlaq (Qur’anic Ethics), Aqaid & Fiqh (Islamic belief and law), Taarikh(Islamic History) and Qur’an recitation. Each subject consists of 3 modules. There will a project-based assignment for Module 1 that will carry 40% of annual marks. There will be an exam at the end of Module 2 and Module 3 each carrying 30%.

For Classes 11 & 12; each subject will have 2 modules weighing 50% each.

This modularized system aims to reduce the workload for the students at the end of the year. Students will not be examined on the topics of previous modules.

The Madrasah awards all students who achieve an A grade (above 81%) in their overall performance throughout the year.

At the end of the academic year, any student who fails two or more subjects will be required to repeat the class. Students in class 11 and 12 have to pass ALL subjects to qualify for promotion / graduation.
